We needed approximately 5 years of consecutive cases from 3 tertiary referral centers to collect sufficient data for our analysis. We chose to analyze only recurrent major bleeds that were intracranial because of the clinical burden and the high risk of chronic sequel and death. The only thromboembolic complication of similar severity is ischemic stroke, and we therefore excluded transitory ischemic attacks.
