Mouth-to–Face Shield Rescue Breathing Unlike mouth-to-mask devices, face shields have only a clear plastic or silicone sheet that separates the rescuer from the victim. The opening of the face shield is placed over the victim’s mouth. In some models a short (1- to 2-inch) tube is part of the shield. If a tube is present, insert the tube in the victim’s mouth, over the tongue.
