TAF is not the only new company that entered the market during the past year. Wadib-al-Sundus (WAS), a Sudan based oil company, started operations a couple of months ago with a fuel station in Mojjo Town, located 75km east of the capital, in Oromia Regional State; and Alemgena, located 19km southwest of the capital, also Oromia Regional State. The Ethiopian branch of the Sudanese company was registered in December 2007, with a capital of five million Birr which was later increased to 11 million Br. The addition of these two companies brings the number of oil companies in the country to eight and the number of local companies to three. TAF is the third, after National Oil Company (NOC), established with a capital of 100 million Br in 2003; and Yetebaberut Beherawi Petroleum.
