A special area with a crucial role in the care of high-risk mothers and their newborns is the Prenatal Special Care Unit (PSCU). Located at The Birthplace at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, the PSCU’s highly trained, compassionate nurses deal with pregnancy complications and serious fetal conditions. They provide care and treatment for a wide range of conditions from maternal diabetes, hypertensive disorders, autoimmune diseases and seizure disorders, to complications such as placenta previa, preterm gestation and fetal blood flow abnormalities.
