During the summer of 2013, Deke studied French organ repertoire with Marie-Louise Langlais in Paris, as part of a sabbatical. In June 2014, he led 50 youth/adult choristers on a choral pilgrimage to England, with performances in Shrewsbury, Hereford, Oxford and Canterbury. In addition to his duties at Grace, he maintains an active performing career including recent recitals at Saint John’s Cathedral in Denver and for the national conference of the Association of Anglican Musicians. When not rehearsing, directing or performing, Deke can be found with wife Joyce, daughter Elle, and son Luke, hiking, skiing and cooking. The Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble.
in music, with an emphasis on vocal performance, from Carleton College in Minnesota. After graduation, she moved to Aspen, CO to join the fundraising team at the Aspen Music Festival and School. While in Aspen, she sang with various local professional and volunteer choirs while also furthering her vocal studies with Elizabeth Hynes and Stephen King (of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice, not the author). Upon returning to Des Moines in 2010, she joined Chancel Choir at Plymouth Church. Alex is delighted to be a new member of Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble.
It continues to be my great joy and privilege to lead the extraordinary singers of the Vocal Arts Ensemble and I truly love being a part of this great musical community.
