Biological considerations in locally advanced breast cancer treated with anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy: thymidine labelling index is an independent indicator of clinical outcome. The number of proliferating cells (H 3-thymidine-labelling index) in infiltrates of malignant melanoma (primary tumours) was compared with that in basal cell epithelioma. The labelling index of the infiltrate of malignant melanoma (2. 16 ± 0. 35%) was found to be 4 to 5 times higher than that of basal cell epithelioma (0. 46 ± 0. 25%).
41 patients were given the medication orally, the other 22 had it applied locally. After 8. 5 weeks, with an average of 25 radiations, about 54% of the patients were cleared of all symptoms or improved considerably. Histological and autoradiographical examinations were carried out to 10 of the orally treated patients. After three weeks of treatment we found a reduced H 3-thymidine-labelling-index.
