The Florida State University Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), sponsored by the College of Medicine’s undergraduate outreach program, is an organization consist over 250 students from diverse background and ethnicities. There is currently a critical need for minority and rural physicians to work within under-served communities. For example, the Tallahassee Bond community has been designated as an area of critical need due to lack of physicians to provide service to low income and indigent patients.
Minority Association of Pre-medical Students, or MAPS, represents the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students of SNMA. MAPS members are considered national Associate members and make up about one third of SNMA's membership. Associate members are eligible for most all SNMA national benefits.
The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States.
