Maryland’s Arts & Entertainment (A&E) Districts help develop and promote community involvement, tourism and revitalization through tax-related incentives that attract artists, arts organizations and other creative enterprises.

Twenty-four A&E Districts have been established since the program began in 2001. And, the most recent economic impact study shows that in fiscal year 2014, 22 Maryland A&E Districts collectively supported an estimated 6,000 new jobs that paid $199 million in wages. During the same year, new jobs combined with A&E District festivals and events supported more than $571 million in state GDP and $39 million in state and local tax revenue. There are two annual deadlines for the A&E District Application: April 1, 2015, and October 1, 2015, and applicants are required to submit the Intent to Apply form 60 days prior to application deadlines. Following the Intent To Apply are: site visit and consultation, community forum, rigorous application with executive endorsement, panel review, staff recommendation and finally, approval from the Secretary of Business and Economic Development.
A&E District Technical Assistance Grant
Applicants must be designated as a State of Maryland Arts & Entertainment District to qualify. Arts & Entertainment Districts may receive only one Technical Assistance grant per fiscal year.
