Kuumba House Dance Theatre dancers, singers and drummers bring the reverberating syncopations of South Africa with their highly charged energetic performances of traditional and contemporary ceremonial, social and folk dances! The company occasionally fuses different regional African dance styles , delivering a fresh and unique approach to the African concert dance stage. Kuumba House presents dance concerts annually, during the Harambee African Heritage Festival, the African Heritage Month, Juneteenth and during Kwanzaa; Performers range from local to international artists.
In 2004 Adam met Terrence Karn, and started performing with Moodafaruka, a world fusion band. Through Terrence, Adam was exposed to musical accompaniment for modern dance at the University of Houston, Hopestone, Inc. , and Houston Ballet/Ben Stevenson Academy. It was at this time he also joined Kuumba House Dance Theatre, a South African dance company, founded by Lindi Yeni. Here, he met Christina Gerard, who was Artistic Director, and it proved to be a lasting partnership.
Houston has an international flavor and is home to several multicultural arts organizations including: MECA (Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts), Kuumba House Dance Theatre.
